More About Dr. Melendez

Dr. Melendez has always had a passion to help people. When he was 6 years old his aunt told him that he would be a doctor someday. Since Dr. Melendez heard those words from his aunt knew he was going to be a doctor, and he set his eyes on that goal. He was raised in Bakersfield and started on the track to become a doctor at Pioneer Drive in Kindergarten. Dr. Melendez was known to always have a book in his hand, and he claims that he was the only boy in the 6th grade that didn’t get a paddle. After graduating from South High he studied Chemistry and Biology at the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. Dr. Melendez went to Autonomous University in Guadalajara for Medical School and finished his 5th year of med school in Maryland at St. George’s Hospital. Dr. Melendez returned to Bakersfield to complete his Residency and Internship at Kern Medical Center before he opened up his private practice on July 15, 1996.

Dr. Melendez vividly remembers the day he wanted to be an OBGYN. It was November 3, 1987 during his rotation of Medical School that he delivered his first baby. She was a beautiful baby girl and he still remembers the family’s last name- McKenzie. It was this day that he fell in love with the Miracle of Life and knew he wanted to do this for the rest of his life. Caring for women and delivering their babies became his mission in life. As a first year resident Dr. Melendez delivered 500 babies and performed 60 C-Sections.

Dr. Melendez has since delivered over 7,000 babies and has proudly kept a journal of every baby he has ever delivered- Their name, their measurements, and the date and time they were born.

Bakersfield is Dr. Melendez’ home and he has been caring for women and delivering babies in Kern County for over 20 years. With compassion Dr. Melendez takes special time caring and helping women achieve health and wellness.
